Public Officer Qualification Exam Mentoring Seminar Held for Junior Mentees Korea University Business School (Dean=Kim Jae Wook) Career Hub held the ‘Public Officer Qualification Exam Mentoring Seminar’ at Hyundai Motor Hall on Tuesday, July 2. This seminar was the first seminar, where attendees mainly talked about how to prepare for the public officer qualification exam. In this day's event, three mentors of Choi Yoon-seok (KUBS 00), Lee Seung-hoon (KUBS 05) and Oh Dong-eun (KUBS 11) who passed the exam gave their generous advice to the audience. In Part 1, mentors talked about how to prepare for the exam. In response to a question asking about how he first decided to prepare for the exam, Oh, who works for the Office of State Coordination, said, "I had great interest in enterprise activities," and went on saying, “Government policy has huge impact on enterprise activities, so I hoped to engage in such a meaningful job by becoming a public officer." One student questioned “How can we get most out of school lectures?”. Oh replied, "Lectures can be helpful to find out what type of subject they are. Micro and macroeconomics lectures, as well as administrative law lecture were very helpful in preparing for the exam." Choi, who works at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, replied to a question asking about his experience in ‘Exam preparation class (Takmajung)’. He said, "I have received immense help from my classmates during my hard times. Those who graduated Takmajung are currently working in various departments, and this also helps me in work. In Part 2, mentors shared their own stories related to work experience. "In fact, almost all the ministries are located in Sejong city, so advantages and disadvantages coexist,” replied Oh, according to the question about his current job satisfaction. He also added, "There is merit in that there are well-organized systems such as parental leave, I think.” When asked about the work environment, Choi said, "The working environment and job satisfaction depends on which ministry you work at." He went on saying, “We usually do business related to law revision and budget, and also cooperate with other departments to prepare countermeasures for various issues." The seminar, which lasted for nearly two hours, was filled with useful preparation tips and practical information about work experience. 2019-2 KUBS Outbound-Exchange Students Information Session Hel 2019-2 KUBS Outbound Exchange Students Information Session was held on June 21 (Fri) at 6:00 pm in HM B307. The contents were △Preparations before departure and return △Application for credit acknowledgement △Q&A session. Before departure, exchange students must report their departure through submitting a departure notification form on the outbound-exchange students information session date, a letter of commitment, a parental consent form, and submit a copy of the student's insurance certificate. In addition, the student will officially be recognized as an exchange student only when the tuition fee is paid in full during the semester's tuition payment period, and it is their duty to confirm their exchange student status at KUPID (Portal). After arrival, students must report their arrival to the KUBS International Office exchange program coordinator via e-mail with their residence address, residence telephone number, contact information, and ‘Notice of Arrival Form’. Students must also attend the local orientation and make an entry declaration to the foreign exchange university. Guidance for preparation before and after ‘departure’ was followed by guidance for preparations before and after ‘returning’. Students must visit the relevant department of the foreign exchange university and make a request to send the official report card to the KUBS International Office before leaving. In addition, students must obtain the syllabus with weekly lecture plans and the number of the lecture hours and must complete the settlement of the dormitory and the account safely. Korea University Business School Produces the Largest Number of "2019 CEOs of Korea." KUBS (Dean=Kim Jae Wook) has been selected as the single largest university and department with the highest number of CEOs in Korea. In the "2019 CEO of Korea's 100 largest companies," released by Hankyung Business Review, KUBS produced the largest number of CEOs in Korea based on the criterion of a single university and department. Of the top 100 CEOs, a total of 34 majored in business administration, with 11 from Korea University's business school. The ranking was followed by six business administration majors from Yonsei University and five from Seoul National University. We have a good news that three KUBS undergraduates, Yoohee Kim(KUBS15), Doyoung Kim(KUBS15) and Sunhyung Yoo(KUBS15) have received the top awards from the “Research Challenge Competition” hosted by one of the largest Korean financial institution, Korea Investment & Securities Co., LTD (“The Institution”). The Institution targets to discover the new, promising financial analysts in the campus via “Research Challenge Competition” and to support their future growth. The competition was successfully operated as a second-time opening following the last year, gathering 151 challengers (the number increased by 48% compared to 2018) The award ceremony was held on June 13th (Thu), at Korea Investment & Securities Co’s headquarter located in Yeoi-do. Based on the direct evaluation by senior analysts from the institution, the awards were given to 4 teams (8 people) and one individual who made the out-performing final report and the presentation. KIS research challenge is a presentation competition covering the business analysis & investment strategy. For business analysis part, 3 corporate options were given to the team, and each team may choose its firm to take a research on. We decided to choose Korean Air since we thought that it might be the best option to collect the most recent data and make the firm’s future earnings expectation. Considering other two corporates, Netmarble and Amorepacific, weren’t good enough to build up a logical research strategy given the limitations in sourcing the data. We wrote the report by organizing the data of Korean Air’s international skyline sales growth, in order to focus on the fundamentals rather than the short-term issues. 2. Please leave us your comment on receiving the award. And please let us know the secret of your winning mentality. Both of us actively participated in RISK, the value stock research group in KUBS and we are used to doing research on diverse topics of various corporates. Plus, we had time advantages since both of us were on temporary absence on school. We did daily meeting in April, never missed a day structuring the analysis flow, collecting and sourcing the data. Especially, the reason we achieved extra high points on creativity score at the final decision, will be because of our hard work on discovering our own perspective on the Korean Air’s earnings trend. For the further analysis on the financial state and valuation, we approached via regional, RPK and yield calculation and those supported our research a lot. It was a highly rewarding experience, accomplishing what we have targeted, and the output is so sweet. (우)금상 수상의 유선형(경영15) 1. Please specify the details of your research contents. I made a business analysis report of the firm ‘Korean Air’. The main factors that we considered while picking up the subject were; 1) the importance of macro analysis such as commodity price, FX, rates considering the key features of airline industry 2) opportunity to make an in-depth analysis on the new finance & accounting issue “IFRS 16”. Therefore, we tried to expand the conventional research pools such as basic valuation methods into wider dimension, so that we can get an alpha score on our research. Furthermore, the competitor firm Asiana’s issue or Hanjin Kal related news were also became our interest point preparing the final report. 2. Please leave us your comment on receiving the award. We physically lived in Anam, Seoul but spent time in Paris (worked overnight) everyday, spending most of our days in 24 hours café around the campus. It was pretty hard challenge but rewardable as we have put a lot of effort into it. For me, the reward has an extra significance since I’ve developed myself a lot in RISK in recent one and a half year. At the first time I joined RISK, I had zero information in `Stock’ or ‘Equity’, but I suddenly became a team head and vice president of RISK, finally paving a way to become a winning analyst of KIS challenge. Ceremony for 2019 Summer KUBS Global Internship The ceremony for 2019 Summer KUBS Global Internship was held at Hyundai Motor Hall on June 21. A total of 18 students will be dispatched to companies outside of Korea this summer including LG Electronics Spain, LG Electronics Indonesia, Young Steel and Saudi Aramco. At the ceremony, a various kind of education was provided including a special lecture by KUBS graduate, an information session about the program and gender equality, to help students excel in those companies. First of all, there was a special lecture on work etiquette and attitude by Lee Ki-chang (KUBS ’94), CEO of Nemo Partners China. "This internship could be an opportunity to change your life," said Lee. "I hope you could think seriously about it.” Lee’s lecture was filled with students’ questions and answers. Lee also explained basic work etiquette dealing with cultural differences and dress code. "As a KUBS student, I hope you could learn a lot from this opportunity without wasting them in vain," Lee said. "It is also very good to make local friends if possible." The ceremony was followed by an information session about departure arrangements, punctuality in workplace, work attitude, and things to notice when sending an e-mail. Then, an information session about gender equality was conducted by Roh Jung-min, Head of KU Center for Gender Equality. "There have been cases in which students suffered through harassment because they did not know they could be protected by the school even if they were outside of Korea, " said Roh. "Also, there were some cases that students did not report harassment because they were afraid that it could be reflected in their scores," Roh said. "I hope you can communicate with the school quickly in the event of any harassment.”

Special Lecture on Research Ethics and Graduate School of Business Meeting On June 7th, the Special Lecture on Research Ethics and the Graduate School of Business Meeting of the first semester of the 2019 academic year was held at B205 of Hyundai Motor Building. About 60 graduate students attended. The Special Lecture on Research Ethics was given by Nam Hyung-doo, a professor at the Yonsei University Law School, under the theme of "Honest Writing Free from Plagiarism." "Plagiarism is technically different from the copyright law," Professor Nam Hyung-doo said. "To understand plagiarism, we have to distinguish it from the copyright law." As for the concept ‘paraphrasing,’ He said, "this is a type of 'plagiarism' that does not violate the copyright law, but what will be criticized ethically." "Thus, plagiarism is a concept that includes elements of copyright infringement and ethical criticism. There can be no homage in academia," Professor Nam added. "When you bring in someone else's opinion, you must state the source honestly," he emphasized. The meeting was followed by Kim Baeho, Associate Dean for Research. He briefly explained about Graduate School requirements for graduation, thesis issues, and the BK21 Plus Business. Kim concluded the meeting by encouraging graduate students to study, saying, "There will be many times when it is hard to keep going," and added, "even so, it is research that creates the possibility of making a big difference in the future with one's small idea."

Business Etiquette Education & Orientation for 2019 Summer Internship Pre-education and orientation for KUBS Summer 2019 Internship program was held on June 4th (Tue) at Hyundai Motor Hall B201. KUBS International department, the event coordinator, guided students to remind how to behave well in their upcoming internship in this summer. The session began with the speech from KUBS’s Industry cooperation focused Professor Youngho Kim, followed by Business Etiquette education from Sunghwa Lee, the international manner coach, and finally the teach-in orientation. At the first hand, Professor Youngho Kim addressed that “This summer internship is a first step getting into your career which will last for more than 40 years in your life”. And he emphasized to remember the main three keywords: △Time management △Attitude △Question, which he thinks are the most significant concepts that every career worker should keep in mind. Professor said “The very important beginning is building up your timetable efficiently, setting the priorities of your job. And then, don’t forget to always keep in touch with your seniors, mentors and supervisors in the office, and communicate with them. You must be highly concentrated in every second during the work time, since this internship opportunity will also apply as a test, which evaluates your job fit, and it will become a huge milestone for your future career”. Next, the international manner coach Sunghwa Lee presented a lecture with a topic of ‘Business manner and Etiquette in Domestic and International Internship’. Ms. Lee stressed out that students should always keep asking themselves whether they are a ‘trustable business partner’ in their fields. Also, she said “Not only the mental attitude, but the external looking and professional image is necessary in terms of business manner”. Then she explained students about how to greet person in the business situation, business card etiquette and networking manner, which will be somewhat not familiar to undergraduate students. “Once you are prepared in those small and trivial points, you will be very successful building up a concrete relationship with seniors and supervisors during the internship” said the coach. After the lecture, KUBS international department began a teach-in orientation, announcing the upcoming timetables such as mid-term evaluation and scheduled Professor meeting during the internship program. Plus, they helped students to understand several ‘must-know’ bullets such as flight fee scholarship and mandatory documents to submit prior to the program. [Lecture Series #4] "Startups That Can Solve Social Problems" by Kim Jae-hyun, CEO of Kravis Partners. The last KUBS (Dean=Kim Jaewook) Lecture Series of the first semester of the 2019 academic year was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Startup Station on the second floor of the Main Building. In the latest Lecture series, Kim Jae-hyun, CEO of Kravis Partners, gave a lecture on "Impact Investment and Venture: At the Crossroads of Capitalism and Democracy." Crevis Partners is a venture investor that discovers and invests in brave companies challenging to solve social problems, and is an "impact investment company" that manages about 40 billion won in venture funds. First, CEO Kim Jae-hyun explained the story when he first started his own business. "It was the first time that I set up a local Chinese-style website with the permission of my manager when I was in my third year of college," Kim said. "I showed my manager a lot of data to help me develop the site, but it turned out that he was a bad reader." "This experience has given me a chance to think about the role of a manager," he said. "Management, start-up is a noble and meaningful job that connects people and helps people. Starting with this experience, he became interested in "social enterprises" that was not defined at the time. CEO Kim Jae-hyun then explained the concept of impact investing. "The 'social effect' is an area where social and financial values meet," Kim said. "It is not a selfish market that moves by the invisible hand, but a concept that shows that the market is driven by the invisible 'heart.' Impact investment is to invest in business items with such impact," he explained. "But since we also consider financial returns, it's not charity or donation at all," he said. Kim stressed the importance of impact investing by citing cases of several domestic and foreign impact projects, including Marimond, Bear Better and Starbucks. "Impact projects can be a way to solve transnational social problems that a country cannot solve," said CEO Kim Jae-hyun. In the ensuing question-and-answer session, Choi Sung-oh, a freshman at KUBS, questioned the role of the government if private companies were to strive to solve social problems. "The government, too, will have to make efforts to solve problems that the market has not solved," said CEO Kim Jae-hyun, adding, "But the government is not immediate in the process, and it is a social enterprise that is in this buffer zone."

[Lecture on Demand #2] 'First step in promoting your startup' - Manager Anna Cho This year’s second "Lecture on Demand" hosted by KUBS Startup Institute (Head=Hicheon Kim) was held at 4 pm on June 4th at the Seung Myung-Ho Center for Entrepreneurship Education on the second floor of the KUBS Main Building. Anna Choi, a KUBS MBA fellow and currently a doctoral student in coaching psychology at Kwangwoon University, gave a lecture on <Planning and Implementing Startup Promotion>. Based on her former experience as a marketing communications manager in Neofect, Choi delivered practical advice on how to promote startups. Choi first explained the strategy of marketing communication. She emphasized that startups should first set clear goals for marketing communications, such as raising the company’s recognition or positioning it with specific images. “Afterwards, they need to analyze their competitors' messages and make in-depth thoughts about their own products to select clear message and media that fits this message," she said. She also stressed five reasons why promotion is important. Once sufficient promotion is done, it will be connected to the purchase of consumers, the support from investors and the application of excellent talents which will ultimately help develop a certain image about the company and its products. At the same time, she stressed that promotion would bring about another promotion. Choi then went on to give practical assistance. She explained how to build a list of reporters and produce basic press kits, maintain friendly relations with reporters and distribute press releases. She also explained how she writes and distributes a press release when there is a proud achievement of the company, such as new product release, successful investment, new awards or sales records. "It was a good time to hear vividly about Choi's experience in promoting startups, which was quite an unfamiliar field to me. I was able to draw a detailed picture of how to contact with the reporters," said Kyung-hwa Lee, a developer of Younggam Company. Every semester, Startup Institute provides startup education through "Lecture on Demand," a working-level lecture series, and "Lecture Series," a special lecture series on startups and ventures. Information Session for Spring 2020 Outbound Exchange Students On June 4th (Tue) at 3:00pm in LG-POSCO Building, KUBS had an information session for Spring 2020 semester’s outbound exchange students. The session was held with the following contents: △Introduction of previous exchange student case △Information of KUBS exchange program △Release of partner university list △Eligibility and application timeline △ Notice of required documents for application △ Q&A. At the beginning, Changui Hong (KUBS13) reviewed his prior experience from KUBS exchange program, saying “KUBS exchange period is a sweet dream for students who are exhausted with busy time table in KU. Everyone will be satisfied with this program, not only enjoying their free time in foreign countries but also achieving a mental growth”. Next, staff from KUBS international department introduced a big picture of KUBS exchange program via its presentation. KUBS operates its own outbound exchange program which transfers 120~170 students abroad, to 102 universities worldwide. This year, University of Melbourne located in Australia have affiliated new partnership with KUBS and got huge interest from many students. University of Melbourne is involved in top 100 business schools in the world, and Spring 2020 will be the first semester that KUBS students go abroad for study. Furthermore, since Korea University international department (not only Business School) also has the partnership with University of Melbourne, there is an additional advantage to study abroad together with other department students in KU. Plus, Western University in Canada and University of Warwick in UK, which well-known as a commanding campus in North America and England also attracted focus from the students. For the eligibility, (1) The applicant needs to achieve average GPA of 3.0, in two previous semester -excluding Summer/Winter semester & Absence period - in KUBS. (2) The Spring 2020 semester, which will be the exchange period, cannot be the applicant’s last semester before the graduation. (3) The applicant will be able to choose to apply in 5 university in total, but up to 3 in America/UK region. (4) The applicant who already has prior experience participating in exchange program in America/UK region is not able to apply again. The applicant who experienced in other region, is not allowed to re-apply in same country. (5) The exchange period will be one semester in general, but it can be extended accordingly to the discussion with KUBS international department. The deadline for application is July 22nd (Mon), 11:50am by online, and paper submission before 4pm. Interview is scheduled from August 1st (Thu) to August 2nd (Fri), and candidate announcement will be completed in August. The final candidates will have orientation session in August 29th (Thu). Orientation session is mandatory, so candidate who does not attend will be rejected from participating into the entire program. The grading criteria for the candidate selection is formed of document screening (40%); GPA of two previous semester and certified English score, and interview score (60%). KUBS Mentoring Program Kick-off Day, "Practical Advice from Mentors The 2019 KUBS Mentoring Program Kick-off Day was held on May 30 at 7:30 pm at Ahn Young Il Hall, LG-POSCO Building. 76 students from KUBS with Dean Jae Wook Kim and 24 mentors engaged in various fields including △public institutions △finance △accounting △consulting and △law have attended the event. First, Jae Wook Kim said in his welcoming speech, "The mentoring program shows the spirit of Korea University," adding, "I hope students could keep in mind the advice from their mentors. I would also like to thank mentors for attending the event even though they were quite busy." The annual Mentoring Program, held by KUBS Career Hub, is a mentorship program between KUBS students and graduates. KUBS students can apply for the mentoring program via KUBS website around April. Students ranging from freshmen to juniors are grouped with former graduates who have advanced to the career path they hope to follow, and receive practical advice on not only career counseling but also on the job sector in general. At the event, Seunghoon Lee (‘05) was given a letter of appointment as a mentor representative. After the short introduction, the annual schedule was given and the program officially began. Each student asked for advice on matters about their future career. The refreshment session was followed by casual questions in a friendly atmosphere. "I liked it because the mentors were quite close to our age," said Yejin Choi (’17) who participated as a mentee. "It was very helpful to hear realistic stories about my future career path." 34 mentors and 89 mentees will take part in the mentoring program this year. Mentoring Program is subdivided into three areas: △employment (general enterprise, financial enterprise, public enterprise, consulting company), △law and △public exam (accounting firm, civil service) where students have the highest demand for mentoring. Starting with the Kick-off Day, each group will conduct seminars in their fields through several times of "panel talk," and wrap up the event in January next year.

[Lecture Series #3] Yoon, founding partner of Big Basin Capital. 'Silicon Valley Success Secrets?' The third KUBS Lecture Series for the first half of the 2019 was held on May 7 (Tue) at 6:30 pm at the KUBS Main Building 2F, Startup Station. Yoon, founding partner of Big Basin Capital, gave a lecture on "Lessons Learned from Silicon Valley Startup Success Stories". Yoon graduated from Seoul National University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He then continued his studies at the Wharton School of Business (MBA) and gained experience at Intel Capital and Walden International VC. Based on this experience, Big Basin Capital was founded in 2013. Yoon explained the startup success story through the case of Uber. "The image of the company is deeply related to the CEO's image," he said. He continued to explain that Uber's former CEO Travis Kalanick is a very aggressive person, and his character was reflected in corporate culture. Yoon also said that Uber has been a bit controversial, blocking funding or hindering business of other companies. "I am not saying that this kind of immoral behavior can be justified, but his enthusiasm toward leading the company is the key," he said. Yoon then emphasized, "In order to succeed in on demand service, (user) experience should be 10 times better and price should be cheaper than existing service." Yoon also emphasized the case of Airbnb. He said the biggest reason Airbnb was successful was "the courage to push crazy ideas out of anyone." "It is crucial to have tenacity and persistence of overcoming any hardships," he explained. In other words, tendency of the leader is as important as the idea in a startup. He noted that Airbnb's "host (landlord)" management was also a factor in his success. Hosts who update their homes to give rent on the Airbnb platform are hard to manage on an enterprise level. "Airbnb has made efforts to overcome difficulties by hosting various events and providing education to the host," said Yoon. 2019 Spring Campus Tour and Mentoring Day for High School Students A one-day experience as a KUBS student The ‘2019 Spring Campus Tour and Mentoring Day for High School Students’ by Korea University Business School (Dean = Jae Wook Kim), was held on May 11th (Tuesday) at the KUBS campus. The event, organized by KUBS Public Relations Office and KUBE, KUBS student ambassadors, was attended by 110 high school students who were selected through fierce competition. The event attracted the largest number of applicants since the campus tour was first launched, showing teenagers' keen interest in KUBS. The regular campus tour is designed to provide high school students who are interested in business administration with practical experience to improve their understanding of KUBS. The campus tour consisted of △ Introduction of KUBS △ Introduction of 7 majors in KUBS △ Tour around Liberal Arts Campus △ Mentoring program with KUBS students. "I've prepared hard for today's event, so I hope you enjoy it as much as you want," said Yeonchan Jeong, a member of KUBE, in his opening speech. [Lecture Series #2] Lendit CEO Sungjoon Kim "Startup begins from empathy and consideration" The second Lecture Series of 2019 was held at KUBS Main Building 2F, KUBS Startup Station on April 30, 6:30 pm. Sungjoon Kim, CEO of Lendit, gave a lecture on the topic of "From Scientist to Designer, Now P2P Financial Entrepreneur." Lendit is an online platform that connects loans and investments; it has mediated more than 170 billion won over a four-year period and now has the highest market share among local P2P financial platforms. First, Kim explained his somewhat unusual academic career. Kim graduated from science high school and studied biotechnology at KAIST. While in college, he by chance took a lecture on IDEO, a design firm that designed Apple's interface. With this incident, he felt a great attraction to design studies and changed his major to industrial design. He then studied product design at Stanford University. “After listening to the lecture, I came to realize that design is not just about aesthetic, but needs much more values than that,” Kim said. Recalling the lecture, he stressed the importance of "design thinking" in startups. Kim explained that the keyword for IDEO is “empathy and consideration,” and that design thinking is a way of empathizing with what people look for and being considerate of them to find a solution. Kim also stressed that many observations and experiments are essential. "If you are thinking of starting your own business, try various experiments to find problems through observation, to empathize and be considerate of other people," he advised. Kim stressed this mindset by explaining the early stage of Lendit. "At that time, I had to borrow money from the secondary banking sector since I had already failed in other startups, and I was asked for a very high interest rate of 22 percent," he said. "But when I used the online lending service from the U.S., I was asked to pay 7.8 percent, even though I was a foreigner. This is how I decided to start Lendit." Kim said. "It is better to start a business from an area to which you can relate easily or in which you can become a customer. Start with empathy for the problem, not the mere idea of having your own business,” he added. The Q&A session was filled with questions from many prospective entrepreneurs. Among them, Seung-jun Park, a KUBS student, asked for advice regarding the difficulty of running a business as a college student. "It's hard to do something else when you launch a startup. If you are not in a hurry, it is not so bad to get a job before you start your own," Kim said. "In fact, you may experience a lot of things and build your know-how through your company life." KUBS Tops the Nation's MBA Survey For Seven Consecutive Years Korea University Business School (Dean=Jae Wook Kim) was ranked No. 1 in the 2019 National MBA Survey. This survey is conducted annually by the HanKyung Business and asks HR managers from the top 300 companies in Korea; KUBS has remained firmly on top of the throne for seven years. KUBS has not missed the No. 1 spot since 2013 when HanKyung Business first started its MBA survey in Korea, and this again proved that the KUBS has the best MBA program in Korea. This year's assessment targeted 15 universities: 13 schools that have been already certified by the Ministry of Education and 2 new schools, KAIST and Sejong University respectively. The survey was conducted by ranking six categories of △preference for recruitment △development potential △organizational cohesion △globalization △professionalism and △entrance recommendation. The total score of KUBS was 4,308 points. Among the six evaluation categories, KUBS ranked first by a high margin in the category of △development potential and △organizational cohesion. KUBS each time has dominated other universities in organizational cohesion. In particular, KUBS ranked first with a very large margin of 283 points with SNU MBA, the second-highest school in organizational cohesion. It shows that KUBS graduates adapt well to new organizations and establish effective and cooperative relationships with their members. In addition, KUBS ranked first with 690 points, higher than SNU MBA (612 points) in development potential. Meanwhile, Yonsei University MBA remained in third place as last year, showing strong performance in globalization sector. Fourth place went to KAIST MBA. SKK GSB ranked fifth, finishing second in organizational cohesion. The top six to ninth places went to Sogang University with 2,488 points, Hanyang University with 2,155 points, Chung-Ang University with 1,452 points and Ewha Womans University with 1,063 points – the same ranking as last year. The “Never-ending” network, ‘2019 Executive MBA CARE Program’ ‘2019 E-MBA CARE (Continuing Alumni Reaching-out &Education, i.e. CARE) Program’, hosted by KUBS Executive MBA, was held at 19th April (Fri) in LG-POSCO Building room 433. Over 40 participants of EMBA graduates and members attended in the lectures. The event began with the opening remark from the program director, professor Jae Uk Chun, addressing “I think the word `CARE’ has a delicate meaning that contains a characteristic of human nature. I believe that all participants here will have a precious time, sharing significant ideas of various topics each other”. Kim Sung-joon, manager of the SK Leadership Development Center, gave a lecture on <Startup, who are you going to work with?>. Kim Sung-joon, who has completed his Ph.D. in management at KUBS, is in charge of diagnosing and analyzing SK Group's executive capabilities and conducting research on startups and large companies. Manager Kim Sung-joon began his lecture by telling the story of how he could discover organizational culture in various parts of the company. "If you look at the composition of parking lots, daily interactions inside elevators, and the structure of the office, you can see how horizontal the organization is about its relationship," Kim said. "Given my past experiences of looking into different companies, I've come to think about how a startup should work and what kind of organizational culture a startup should have." During the lecture, he talked about what kind of person he would start his own business with and what kind of talent he would look for. "Startups are likely to be at odds at the planning stage," Kim said. "It is important to try to understand and complement each other, whether the process is intuitive or logical." He also cited examples of difficulties in finding and hiring talented people, adding that "organizational culture" is very important because culture affects thoughts and attitudes. “Startups should also focus on creating attractive organizational cultures," he added. 2019 KUBS MBA Admissions Open Korea University Business School (Dean=Professor Jae Wook Kim) is now accepting applications for 2019 MBA admissions. Admissions are open for 3 MBA programs: △Global MBA/Global MIM △S³ Asia MBA. Global MBA has three application rounds, and Global MIM has two application rounds. Global MBA and Global MIM are programs which equip students to academic and professional skills through a variety of global experiences. If candidates participate in programs at partner schools across the world, they are eligible for the award of degrees from both institutions. S3 Asia MBA is an Asia-specialized MBA program and has only one application round. Candidates can study at 3 universities in 3 different countries in Asia — Korea University, Fudan University, and National University of Singapore (NUS). Candidates are eligible to graduate with 2 degrees, one from KUBS and the other from either Fudan University or NUS. Both Global MBA and Global MIM will begin the application of the 1st round starting from the entrance information session which is held on January 3 (Thu) 2019. The deadline for online application of the 1st round is January 13 (Sun) 2019 17:00 and submission documents should be accepted the day after (January 14 (Mon) 17:00). ‘Faculty-Student Mentoring Day’: A Special Time with Academic Advisors Korea University Business School (Dean=Kim Jae Wook) held the ‘Faculty-Student Mentoring Day’ event for Spring 2019 on April 8th (Mon), 11th (Thu), and 12th (Fri) at Ahn Young Il Hall and Cuckoo Hall, LG-POSCO Building. The event was held for three days at Ahn Young Il Hall and Cuckoo Hall at LG-POSCO Building between 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, and 54 faculty and 488 undergraduates participated. After each student’s pre-application to the event, each student was able to freely attend the meeting and had lunch with their academic advisors in a comfortable atmosphere. In addition, group mentoring was held regarding matters which require advice such as academics, career, and scholarship. The students in attendance spoke not only with their academic advisors but also with other students sitting at the same table, revealing each other's current situation and concerns. Foreign students also participated together as mentees, actively communicating and sharing meaningful time. "As a freshman, I had many problems including my school life, but I think the advice I received from my professor helped me a lot," said Park Yong-chan (Undergraduate, admitted in '19), who attended the event on Tuesday. "As my professor said, I would like to seriously explore what I want, and do my best in that field and have no regrets." "I had a great time since I was able to hear many stories that helped senior students who are serious about their career," said Hong Chang-ui (Undergraduate, admitted in '14), who attended the meeting on Wednesday. "I was also very happy that my academic advisor, Professor Kim Jaehwan, created a happy atmosphere for mentee students." [Special Lecture] Choi Dongjun, Barclays UK Managing Director/Strategic Analyst On April 15, a lecture by Choi Dongjun, Managing Director/Strategic Analysis of Barclays UK, was given at Hyundai Motor Hall, Room 412. Barclays is a British-based global financial services company. The lecture was held under the theme of "Transition of Customer Participation Using Data Science and MarTech," with some 20 students attending. Introducing his job – Strategic Analystics — he explained, "I study how data is applied to the business area, and I analyze data using MARTech so that it can be used in target marking." "Martech" is a combination of “marketing” and “technology” that uses measurements based on technological analysis. "The most important role of any team is to analyze customer contact strategies to predict their behavior," he added. "It is important to select a large amount of data and analyze the individual characteristics of customers, even if they have the same demand, to avoid any errors of generalization."
