Qualifying Exam

The Qualifying Exam can be taken up to three times; Ph.D. program and MS/Ph.D. integrated program students should pass the exam during the seventh and ninth semesters of enrolment, respectively. However, stipulations regarding the number of times the test can be taken are subject to the internal rules of each major.


Department of Business Administration

•MS program: Exams are conducted in the three courses for each major. If students achieve a B+ or higher in each for the three courses, they will take an oral test. If not, they need to take a written test for any course in which they scored less than a B+, in addition to the oral test.

•Ph.D. program: An exam is conducted for each major. Refer to the internal rules for each major.
Department of International Business

•MS program: Exams are conducted in the three courses for each major. If students achieve a B+ or higher in each for the three courses, they will take an oral test. If not, they need to take a written test for any course in which they scored less than a B+, in addition to the oral test.


◎ Major areas and subjects of the exam

- International Business majors: International Business, International Marketing, and International Finance
- International Trade majors: International Trade, International Trade Environment, and International Finance

•Ph.D. program: A pass is granted when the average test score of the major and minor courses is 70 or higher.
(When the average test score is lower than 70, a partial pass is granted for the courses with scores of 70 or higher.)

When the average GPA of the nine credits for the minor is B+ or higher, students will take an oral test. Students can take the exam  up to three times.


◎ Students can take the test on their minor when they have taken at least 27 credits and achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
 
[New entrants before the 2010 spring semester] When the average GPA of the nine credits for the minor is B+ or higher, students will take an oral test.

[New entrants after the 2010 fall semester] They will take an oral test on up to two courses with an A or A+, among the rest four courses of their major.
